I may be super weird, but I enjoy doing laundry. Is that weird?? It's probably weird. I think it's more the fact that I'm cleaning things more than anything else. Plus I love how they come out of the dryer all fluffy, warm and soft. At least until our dog, Kevin, tries to roll all over them ;)
I'm extremely sensitive to laundry detergent. I noticed it when I was in middle school. If we used a detergent that had a scent to it I'd immediately get a rash on my chest within minutes of putting on a shirt or jeans. It was SO annoying.
Back when we started our chemical free home ditch + switch in October, 2016, I threw out our detergent and it felt so good. As an alternative, I got Thieves laundry soap (that I LOVE because it lasts forever & smells like Christmas - HELLO) and it's been treating us well ever since. No rashes, no skin irritations.
But I still felt like I wanted our clothes and, our whites particularly, to be a little brighter because over time they get quite a beating. And we also hang a lot of clothes, so I wanted them to smell just as good and feel just as soft as our clothes that go through the dryer.
I finally came across this laundry scent booster and BOY is it the best thing ever! I throw it straight into the laundry drum with our clothes, throw some of our laundry soap in the dispenser, and they come out so fresh and soft and smelling oh so very dreamy.
Here's how to make it yourself!
+ 1-1/2 cup epsom salt or sea salt
+ 1/2 cup baking soda
+ 20-30 drops essential oil of your choice (I love stress away!)
+ Combine all ingredients well. Let sit to air dry and then transfer into a glass jar with a lid. That's it!
+ Add 2-3 TBSP to your wash, right into the drum with the clothes.
The epsom salt will completely dissolve in water and is just the vehicle to get the scent into your laundry. It may also add a little softening as well!
Baking soda is a natural deodorizer and helps keep your laundry bright!
